I took over 800 pics so far!

It’s hard to post all of my pics on Tumblr so I will make an online album so people can see all my pics and videos!

Halfway Point

It’s been about two weeks and it’s getting better and better. My classes at Villa 21 and Escuela Del Mirador are phenomenal. It’s weird at times because the atmosphere difference is drastic. One day I’m at a private school and the next day I teach at a Villa. I leave soon and I will miss it dearly. I know I should be writing more but I’m so busy with my work and getting to know Buenos Aires that I have no time left for myself :(

I assure all of my followers that after my trip I will keep you posted with pics and stories.

I appreciate the donations people! Seriously, whether you donated $5.00 or $500.00 it helped me get to this point and for that I have to say thanks.

This is the village where I teach at. I would have pictures but they advise that I don’t take cameras or any valuables there. I’ll try to get a few shots though.

It’s been about a week and…

This trip has been the best experience in my life. In 7 days I met a Swiss Banker, a future Yale student, an HR rep from the UK, a French student, a student from the UK, and an older woman from Belgium.Mind you this was only in my hostel. Overall, I met over 100+ people in 9 days.

I’m slowly overcoming social fears I once had. I see myself changing negative ways of thinking day by day. I’m doing a good cause and I have my donors to thank for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

More to come!

I lived in three cities that contain original bronze casts of “The Thinker” by Auguste Rodin. I live only a few miles away from the vandalized sculpture at The Cleveland Museum of Art and Columbia University also has a cast in front of Philosophy Hall. The first day I arrived to Buenos Aires, I found out I lived less than a two minute walk away from the only bronze sculpture in South America.

I have 19 more to witness in person.

Why I Took Time Off From Columbia

I never took my education at Columbia for granted; I loved the challenge of my classes and appreciated my opportunity to the fullest extent. I loved my professors and the challenge of hard work. To tell you the truth I disliked the atmosphere of the university and the student body. I felt too many students were out of touch with reality or bad people. I can only describe my experience because the view of others might differ from mine. Honestly I could care less of what others experienced if I felt miserable at my time of attendance. I did not acclimate to my surroundings. As the years went by the problem got worse, influencing my decision to take time off of school. People can say you can block your surroundings, but I’m the type of person who doesn’t want to resort to that. My college years should be a good experience, not a grind and time of discomfort.

The idea of meeting different people was not the problem. I’ve been in Buenos Aires for six days and I’ve made more friends on this trip than my three years of attendance at Columbia. I’ve been in many different social circles throughout my life and never had this problem. Outside of my university I could converse with many different people. If I talked to people at Columbia, chances were that they worked or taught at Columbia. I could not relate to the actual students at all no matter how much I tried.

Truthfully I don’t know what it will be like to adjust to college life again. My problem could be worse if I return in the fall. Regardless of my outcome, I appreciate my education and the gratitude of the benefactors and Columbia University administrators. The rest can fall by the wayside.
